What is a 'Victory Garden'?
A 'victory garden' was first introduced during World War II to contribute to the war effort by helping to diversify food production by encouraging everyone who could have a garden to grow vegetables for consumption and sale. The recent CoVID outbreak has dramatically increased interest in home vegetable gardens because some areas have 1) had difficulty getting fresh vegetables, 2) a desire to have accessible food nearby without exposing residents to CoVID, and 3) a desire to get outside to enjoy gardening for health reasons. Below, please find some great resources for Maryland, Virginia and Delaware residents to grow vegetables in their yards.
